Running the Alis Assessments

Main points

MidYIS, Yellis and Alis (CABT) are single timed assessments. They include the following adaptive sections (running order indicated by the numbers):

• (1) Vocabulary (lasting a maximum of 10 minutes)
• (2) Mathematics (lasting a maximum of 25 minutes)

Additional Non-Adaptive sections

• (3) Non-Verbal (including Pictures, Speed and Accuracy, Diagrams, Dice) (lasting 16 minutes in total)

The assessments have no sound.

Instructions and example questions appear at the start of each section so a student is aware of what they are expected to do and how long they have to answer as many questions as they can. If a student gives an incorrect answer to an example question, they will be told what the correct answer is.

When the mount of time for a section expires, it will end regardless of whether a student has finished. This is by design.

Students will not be told if they have given a correct or incorrect answer when the module assessed questions begin.

Please remember that students should take the assessment in a standardised environment.
Try to run your sessions with as much conformity as possible, ensuring that all students are familiar with the computers they are about to use. Use your experience of any trial sessions to establish your routines for taking the assessments.

Please have paper and pens available for your students to use during the assessment.Please note that
calculators MUST NOT be used during the assessment.

Baseline assessments should be completed before the end of Term 1 of the academic year but the
assessment is available until May to allow for the assessment of absentees or students joining you later in
the academic year

What you will need:

• The CABT Assessment Link (ComputerAdaptiveBaselineTest)
• The Assessment passkey (the passkey is unique to the year group (grade) but is the same for every student in that grade)

What you will see when the Assessment link is selected

Selecting the assessment link will launch the test.

• First thing a student will be asked to do is enter the assessmentPasskey. The passkey is not case sensitive.

• Enter the passkey into the text box and click Submit.
• Remember the passkey is unique to the Grade but the same for every student in that grade.
• The CABT test will launch

• Click the Next

• The student will choose their name from the grid. Once they choose their name the next page will automatically be displayed. This screen will display the name the student has chosen and the test they are about to take.

• Click Next. Final page before the test will begin. The student clicks the Start button to begin.

• The title page of the first test section will be shown. The student clicks Next.

• Each section begins with a summary page followed by the example questions. When the final example question has been answered the student will see the final page detailing the time they have to complete the section. When they click the Next button the section will begin.
• When the student reaches the end of the test this message will be displayed.

• The test is finished and the browser can now be closed.

What if something goes wrong?

Using the fully online version there is always the risk that an internet connection may be broken. This may result in the automatic transfer of a student’s test responses file being unable to be transferred to CEM when the test is completed.

If this happens a message will be displayed on screen to say that the transfer of the completed assessment file has failed.

Don’t worry the results can be returned to us manually.

You will be prompted to save the results file somewhere on your computer. We would recommend saving the file to your computer desktop or documents folder, and rename it as the name of the student.

This file can then be emailed to your school. The file should have a .CSF ending.
