InCAS modules
InCAS is a modular suite of timed computer delivered assessments consisting of:
- Reading module (lasting a maximum of 25 minutes)
- General Mathematics module (lasting a maximum of 25 minutes)
- Developed Ability module (lasting a maximum of 25 minutes)
- Spelling module (lasting a maximum of 20 minutes)
- Mental Arithmetic module (lasting a maximum of 20 minutes)
- Attitudes module (lasting a maximum of 10 minutes)
All assessment modules do not have to be completed on the same day.
A student will have a unique 3 character password for each InCAS assessment module (6 passwords in total).
When the maximum time is reached the module will end regardless of whether a student has finished, this is by design.
There is sound with each module so you will need to use a computer with sound enabled. Headphones are usually used but if the assessment is being taken in a quiet room they are not essential.
Instructions and example questions are given at the start of each test module so a student is aware of what they are expected to do. If a student gives an incorrect answer to an example question they will be told what the correct answer is.
Students will not be told if they have given a correct or incorrect answer when the module assessed questions begin.
What you will need:
- The InCAS Assessment Link
- The InCAS Assessment passkey
- The InCAS Assessment unique individual student module password(s)
- Working headphones
What you will see when the Assessment link is selected
Selecting the assessment link will launch the test.
- First thing a student will be asked to do is enter the assessment Passkey. The passkey is not case sensitive.
- Enter the passkey into the text box and click
- The InCAS test will launch
- Click the Next
- The student will be asked to enter their unique Password for the InCAS module they are taking.
- Enter the Password and click Next.
- The next screen will be a page displaying the name of the student and the assessment module they are about to take. This example is using the Mental Arithmetic InCAS assessment module (Quiz).
- Click Next.
- The student will now be asked to set the sound volume level.
- Click the audio icon to check the current sound level.
- If the level is too loud or too quiet use the slide to increase or decrease the level.
- Click the audio icon again to check the amended sound level.
- When the student is happy with the sound they click Start.
- They will then see the first example question of the chosen quiz.
- The student will choose the answer they think is correct for the example question. If an incorrect answer is given to an example question the student will be given the correct answer as shown below (3 was the answer chosen but 2 is the correct answer):
- When all the example questions have been answered the quiz will begin.
- The student will be presented with the next question as soon as they choose their answer option. They will not be told if the answer they have given is correct or incorrect.
- When the student reaches the end of the quiz this message will be displayed.
- The test is finished and the browser can now be closed.
What if something goes wrong?
Using the fully online version there is always the risk that an internet connection may be broken. This may result in the automatic transfer of a student’s test responses file being unable to be transferred to CEM when the test is completed.
If this happens a message will be displayed on screen to say that the transfer of the completed assessment file has failed.
Don’t worry the results can be returned to us manually.
You will be prompted to save the results file somewhere on your computer. We would recommend saving the file to your computer desktop or documents folder, and rename it as the name of the student.
Please contact CEM at primarysupport@cem.org For more information on how to send the file back to CEM.
